December to March inclusive
Few photographers know the marshes and woodlands of north Kent better than Robert. Join him in this opportunity to photograph from dawn till dusk on two of Robert's favourite nature reserves as well as at a specially prepared woodland birds feeding station. Dawn till mid morning will be spent at the first location on the North Kent Marshes that should give ample opportunities to obtain images of wetland birds including waders, wildfowl, greylag geese and lapwings. This is a particularly good location for photographing birds against the morning sky. Afterwards, there may be the chance to photograph one of the counties' largest congregations of Brent geese at a site not too far away but this of course depends on the birds and will be discussed days before. From there, Robert will take you to a woodland setting where birds have been enticed close to a photographic hide. Species ranging from blue, great and marsh tit to chaffinch, great-spotted woodpecker and pheasant will all be within camera range where a choice of perches will be at your disposal.
At your discretion and if time allows, Robert will whisk you off to your final destination, again, on the marshes. Robert has been photographing here on an almost daily basis for the last 15 years and is the only photographer to have exclusive access to all parts of this huge reserve. His images of this area have been used in a variety of publications, not least a double-page spread in BBC Wildlife magazine. Both the RSPB and its landowner regularly use his images of this unique area for publicity and campaign purposes. Using the car as a mobile hide Robert will drive you around the reserve whilst informing you of its special wildlife, history and management.
