Ted was a massive influence on me but I "covered" him, so to speak, in my original intro to the series. I am sure you have a heard a few stories. He was quite a character! Here's the link where I talk about him.

Robert, yes, his images were great and many people were inspired by him. I haven't seen yet any of his films, but will try to do it soon. I am sure they are very interesting too.

Thank you for your words, Beata. It is very sad indeed. I visited your blog. His work must have looked really fantastic along the banks of the Thames. He leaves us with a very special insight into the wonderful wildlife that is to be found in Poland. It is just a shame that his life was cut so short that he could not continue to enthrall us with his images.

I have only learned about Artur's untimely death yesterday. Some time ago I have stumbled upon his fantastic exhibition on South Bank and took some pictures of his great wildlife photos exhibited so prominently here, in London. Yesterday, at long last I wrote a blog but sadly, too late. We shall remember him by his photographs though. You can find a few words about him and two pictures from this exhibition in my latest blog. Although now I specialise in landscape photography, but wildlife photography have always been very close to me. I like very much your bird photos and yes, you are right, ancient forest of Białowieża is unique and fantastic. With my best wishes, Beata.
Hi Simon,

Indeed we do. Important I think not to forget to don the 'shooting for myself' hat so we don't lose sight of that side of our work.

Thank you regarding the robin image. If I ever do, it will be posted here!

Hi Robert

I think your spot-on here. I know that my favourite images in my portfolio are the ones least likely to be picked up by a picture researcher. It's a shame as I feel we photographers have to wear two hats - "shooting for stock" and "shooting for myself" where the two rarely overlap.
Your robin shot for me is top-notch as it has much more character than the clinically perfect 'studio' shots that are par for the course nowadays. Fingers crossed that you get a sale from it.

Comment on Seals at Donna Nook by Gary Box

I agree 100% with this article. I visited Donna Nook for the first time about 5 years ago or more. It became an annual visit for me in November and I even took some friends each year. Each year I noticed the car park was getting busier than the last. The last time I visited I was appalled at the behaviour of some wildlife photographers with huge zoom lenses. As you say it was picture at any cost and a group of them would get into position and then make noises to attract the attention of one baby seal which was obviously distressed. What they don't understand is how needless it is since there is always one photogenic pup who seems happy to pose and you can always tell from the mother's reaction whether a pup is distressed.

In my opinion the wildlife photographers who go to Donna Nook are no better than the papparazzi who hassle the rich and famous.
