Photographic Workshops > Gower: South Wales

Sunday 3rd February 2019 - Tuesday 5th February 2019

Designated the UKs first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Gower, in South Wales, is a photographer’s dream. During this workshop we will photograph golden, sandy beaches fringed with sand dunes, flanked by towering limestone cliffs.

The workshop begins over an evening meal at our accommodation on the first evening (Sunday 3rd) and concludes at dusk (circa 5.30pm) on the last (Tuesday 5th).

Our accommodation will be in a comfortable pub/hotel along the Gower coast, perfectly situated for exploring this region. I will advise when to book your room.

Unless torrential downpours are forecast, on both days we will be out at dawn capturing sunrise on nearby sandy bays. After a couple of hours of photography we will return to our accommodation for a hearty breakfast and then set off for the rest of the day, visiting a further two locations. Sweeping, sandy bays, a weathered wreck, lighthouse, dunes, rocky shorelines, patterns and textures are all possible subjects.

As you can see, the group size will kept to a maximum of just 5 so that I can spend as much time with each as you would like or want on an, almost, one-to-one basis. The day is suitable for those of all levels and whether you have only recently picked up a camera or have been shooting for years, you are sure to find this an enjoyable and beneficial workshop. I will be covering such things as exposure, filtration, lens selection, reading the histogram and composition. Emphasis will be given on creating images with strong, visual impact.

Please note the following
It is your responsibility to find your way to the accommodation. Once there, the first three that book will travel in my car to the various locations and the last to book will carry the one remaining passenger and follow me in their vehicle. If that person cannot drive then the fourth person to book will carry the other. In order to compensate for the fuel used the person that drives will receive £30 off the workshop cost.

It is a condition of booking that you stay in the same hotel as me. You will be advised when to book.

Cost excludes: Accommodation in a comfortable pub/hotel and all meals.
Accommodation: You will be advised when to book your room upon booking of this workshop and when the minimum number has been reached.
Level of fitness: Moderate to good. Most of the sites we will visit will require just a short walk from the car. However, due to the very nature of this region there will be some inclines and longer walks taking in the region of 30 minutes, as well as rocky, slippery ground, particularly near the shoreline.
Experience level: Beginner upwards.
Equipment needed: Whatever you own. Aside from your camera, a couple of lenses from wide-angle to telephoto will be sufficient. A tripod is a must and those dawn/dusk shoots and polarising, ND and ND grads useful but by no means essential. It is necessary that you have a clear understanding of exposure. A full checklist will be given nearer the workshop date.
