Photographic Workshops > Peak District In Autumn: Dawn till Dusk
Monday 28th October 2019
The first 3 that book will travel in my car and the last to book will follow in theirs with the other attendee. If that person cannot drive then the fourth to book will drive. The locations we visit are a short distance from our accommodation.
The workshop begins the previous evening where, over our meal, we will discuss the following day's format. Our accommodation is located in Hathersage, Derbyshire, which I have found to be the perfect base. All previous clients have found it to be comfortable and the service of a very good standard.
We begin at dawn, and unless torrential rain is forecast we will be out as you, simply, never know how it could materialise. The worst feeling is to stay in bed and see a magnificent sunrise from your bedroom window! Even if it’s gloomy you’ll be surprised as to what can be achieved in such conditions. I know this region extremely well so there will always be options. If not a view with the sun rising over the valley then perhaps a birch forest revealing itself in the blue light of dawn.
After a couple of hours of photography, we will return to our accommodation for a hearty breakfast and then set off for the next location. Following this we will return to our hotel for a short break where I will then review some of your images, using the back of your camera. You will find this very useful as there may be tweaks in your composition or exposure that can be rectified at our final location.
Where we visit and what we photograph will be dictated by the weather but as I know this area so well you can be sure that whatever the conditions there will be something for you to photograph. Unending views, swirling streams, an abandoned mine, waterfalls and woodlands are all possible subjects. Throughout the day I will be covering such things as exposure, filtration, lens selection, reading the histogram and composition. Emphasis will be given on creating images with strong, visual impact and I will be passing on a few ‘tricks’ that will help your images stand out from the crowd.
The workshop will conclude at dusk where we will return to our cars and bid our farewells. If you are staying a further night we can meet for a meal that evening and discuss what we have photographed. I am always happy to answer whatever questions you may have.
As you can see, the group size will be kept to a maximum of just 5 so that I can spend as much time with each as you would like or want on an almost one-to-one basis. The day is suitable for beginner upwards but a clear understanding of exposure is a prerequisite.
Regardless of whether you are travelling a considerable or short distance for this workshop, it is a condition of booking that you stay at the same accommodation as me even if it is just for the one night. If there are insufficient rooms available Robert can recommend other nearby hotels.
How To Book
To book a place, simply download and fill out the booking form (see Downloads on the right) and return to Robert either by post or email. Your place will be confirmed upon receipt of both the booking form and payment.
"First of all, many thanks for the workshop that you led in the Peaks recently. As a beginner to DSLR cameras and photography, I found that your patient, positive and extremely helpful approach, combined with your depth of knowledge, enthusiasm and great technical skill - enabled me to learn a great deal in just one day -particularly how to see, compose and take a good photo. Whilst I struggled to get to grips with all of the learning, I really enjoyed the day and from my point of view, I have a few photos which I am really pleased with. I would never have taken without the benefit of your advice, guidance and support. Thanks again".
"Dear Rob, I would just like to thank you for a perfect day in the Peak District".
"Firstly, let me thank you for a wonderful day in the Peak District. We all thoroughly enjoyed the way you ran the programme and gave us individual attention. I learnt quite a lot from your instructions and guidance given on the day and my photography is better for it. I'm getting better composition and exposures. Still, quite a way to go yet, but getting there no doubt"!
