Accommodation:

Our accommodation for the 2 nights will be the King Arthur Hotel in Reynoldstone. An extremely comfortable hotel serving excellent food, it is perfectly located for us to reach the very best that Gower has to offer.

Fitness level: Moderate. Although a couple of locations will require just a short stroll from the car, due to the very nature of this region, there will be others that necessitate a walk of at least 20 minutes each way that includes steps as well as rocky, slippery ground, particularly near the shoreline. We'll be taking it easy. It's not a race!
Sunrise / Sunset: 07.45 / 16.20
Experience Level: Beginner upwards.
Equipment needed: A couple of lenses from wide-angle to telephoto will suffice. A tripod is a must for those dawn/dusk shoots and polarising, ND and ND grads are useful but by no means essential. It is necessary that you have a clear understanding of exposure. A full checklist will be given nearer the workshop date.

Transport to the locations
The first two who book will travel in my car to the various locations, and the last will carry the remaining passenger and follow me in theirs. If that person cannot drive, then the third person who books will take the other. In order to compensate for the fuel used, the person who drives will receive £40 off the workshop cost.

You are required to get yourself to the hotel in Gower. 

Post-workshop image review and editing tutorial
Upon receiving two RAW files from each attendee, I'll provide a recorded critique and Lightroom/Photoshop edit. There'll be no need for anyone to be present during this process, so you need not set aside any time. This will not only give you valuable feedback and a chance to see others' work, but it will, I hope, also provide ideas for processing your own photos.

Designated the UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Gower Peninsula, in South Wales, is a magical location for the landscape photographer. To many, Gower is a relatively unknown region (it certainly was to me four years ago), but following numerous personal visits and workshops in both autumn and winter, I have to say this has quickly become one of my favourites. With a huge variety of subject matter in stunning surroundings, this 2-night Gower photography workshop is sure to stimulate your photographic creativity. 

The workshop begins on the 20th at 13.00hrs and concludes after a sunrise shoot and breakfast on the 22nd. Unless torrential downpours are forecast, on the 21st and 22nd, we will be out at dawn, capturing sunrise over one of Gower's many stunning bays.

Although there are some interesting views inland, for the duration of this workshop, we will concentrate on those along its rich and varied coastline. At 3 miles long, the dramatic sweeping bay of Rhossili is a must visit where close to the shore lays a weathered wreck which looks wonderful on a receding tide at sunset and from high up upon the adjacent towering limestone cliffs of Worms head, we will gain an aerial perspective of this impressive location and further on enter its rocky shoreline providing us with patterns, textures and opportunities for long exposure photography.  

November is the perfect time to visit, where the weather can be unpredictable, thereby providing us with some exciting conditions in which to photograph and where, unlike the milder and more benign seasons of spring and summer, the sun is continuously low, resulting in warm, low-raking light highlighting textures, shapes and forms.

With rockpools and a lighthouse, a mere 30 minutes' drive to the east, lies the picturesque Bracelet Bay, and between the two, the rugged landscape of Three Cliffs Bay and, just 5 minutes from our accommodation, the perfect sunrise location of Port Eynon.

Workshop info

Thank you for dropping by and considering attending a workshop. I love nothing more than to pass on to others the knowledge I have gained over the last 30 years as a professional photographer and 15 as a workshop and tour leader. My group sizes are always small ensuring a fun and friendly group dynamic, lots of 'personal space' in which to photograph without too much fear of others getting in your way and as much tuition as you would like or feel that you need. I hope you can join me!

Although under the 'umbrella' of Workshops, please note there is a difference between the three types that I offer. To avoid any confusion, please see below.

Workshops

Those taking place in the UK are classed as Workshops where learning is the primary aim, and in the case of those which are multi-day residential, very often include image critique and post-processing sessions.

Tours

Overseas trips are classed as Tours where the logistics are all taken care of and where the emphasis is on getting you to great locations at the best time of the day. Since these may include hide photography and working in cold, windy conditions where one-on-one tuition isn't practical, these are less hands-on. However, prior to the hide session or upon arriving at a location, I will give advice and suggestions on composition, lens selection and exposure.

Creative Visions

Creative Visions is a new concept that I have designed to specifically nurture your artistic growth. They can take place in either the UK or abroad combining both workshop and tour principles. There will be critique and post-processing tutorials and, most importantly, you will be encouraged to go beyond the record and representational and instead produce more intimate creative interpretations.
