Recently, while looking through an old family album, my brother came across this photo of me taken while on holiday to Coombe Martin in North Devon, circa 1980. I would have been 9 years of age. It must have been taken by my late mother since she took pretty much all the family photos. She was a very good photographer who had a great eye for composition and timing - as illustrated in this. It's quickly become a favourite of mine and makes me smile every time I look at it, not least because of its old-photo aesthetic but it also shows my early passion for nature which has continued to enlighten and thrill me with every encounter.
