Unsurprisingly (especially with the grouse), several thousand images were made, and although I am yet to scrutinise each, I thought I would post a small selection in flight that have caught my eye, all of which were photographed on the first morning.
For all, I used the Nikon Z8 and 400mm f/4.5 - a combination I adore! Light and compact, it's practically a carry-around lens, and as for the autofocus...
Light permitting, in order to freeze the grouse, I strove for a shutter speed of at least 1/2000 second, and when confronted with such a high contrast scene, I find using manual exposure to be far more reliable and consistent than any other exposure mode.
