We all know there's no such thing as the perfect bag! I've just looked over my left shoulder and I can count 5 that are 'neatly' stacked here in my office. As an all-round nature photographer that's been shooting for close to 40 years, I've accumulated a lot of kit. I've pretty much sold all that which I rarely use and I'm now left with what I would consider essential items. The majority of my personal work is close to home and I often go out at a moment's notice and would rather not spend 20 minutes unloading my bag which at that time might hold my wildlife kit of 200-400mm, 70-200mm, teleconverter and binoculars and replace it with a landscape kit of wide-angles and filters. It's much easier for me to grab 'n' go! However, I do have favourites and when I travel abroad or hold residential workshops in the UK, I often use the same bag time and again whether it be for wildlife or landscape (sometimes both) or even for my Hasselblad film camera.
To make life easier, once I've found a configuration that works, I photograph it using my mobile phone and refer back when I need to pack the same equipment, again. It saves an awful lot of time and head-scratching!
