Last month I was pleased to receive an email from International Garden Photographer of the Year notifying me that one of my images - Fell-top Sunset - was award a Commended in the Trees, Woods and Forests category. Taken in Finnish Lapland in January 2020 while leading the Winter Wonderland: Eagles and Full Moon Landscapes tour (2 places left for 2022!), we spent an incredible few hours on top of a fell looking across Finland on one side and Russia on the other. These heavy, snow-laden, ice-encrusted trees (known as tykky) are unique to the region due to the freezing temperatures, elevation, and moisture from the Baltic. It was a fantastic afternoon (beginning with being snowmobiled to the top) with incredible light and watching everyone taking photos with smiles upon their faces is something that every tour leader hopes to see.
