Cost excludes: Getting to and from the Peak District, lunch and dinner.
Accommodation:
Superbly situated just a short distance from the majority of the locations is the extremely comfortable Millstone Country Inn. Each person will have a private, spacious en-suite double room with TV, tea/coffee facilities and WiFi.
Fitness level: Easy to Moderate. Unsurprisingly, given the nature of the region, there will be walking up slopes and on rocky, uneven terrain but nothing too taxing and I promise, there'll be no rock climbing!
Sunrise / Sunset: 05.45 / 20.30
Experience Level: Beginner upwards. However, a clear understanding of exposure is necessary.
Equipment needed: The workshop is suitable for those who own any type of camera with lenses ranging from a wide-angle to telephoto. A tripod will be essential for those dawn/dusk shoots and polarising, ND graduated and ND filters will be useful though by no means essential. A full checklist will be given upon booking.

Transport to the locations
The first two who book will travel in my car to the various locations, while the last will transport the remaining passenger and follow me in theirs. To help cover fuel costs (plus a little extra!), the driver will receive £40 off the workshop cost.

On this 2-night Peak District in Summer landscape photography workshop, we will take in breathtaking views from up-high gritstone edges, meander with our cameras along cascading streams and photograph within abandoned quarries and characterful birchwoods. With a small group of just 4, you'll receive bespoke one-on-one tuition, and following the workshop, a recorded critique and Lightroom tutorial. I hope you can join me!
For the duration of this Peak District workshop, our photography will be concentrated in the Dark Peak (north) region where huge gritstone edges, moorland plateaus, streams and woodland predominate. Having visited and photographed the Peak District on innumerable occasions over the last 20 years, I have refined the itinerary to what I consider to be the best format for this particular photography workshop. Upon checking into the hotel and meeting for an early dinner, we will head out until dusk to photograph heather moorland and edges. The next day will involve a sunrise shoot and following an early dinner, two further locations until dusk. The workshop concludes following an optional sunrise shoot on the 16th.
POST-WORKSHOP IMAGE REVIEW AND EDITING
Upon receiving three RAW files from each participant, a recorded critique and Lightroom/Photoshop edit will be provided. There'll be no need for anyone to be present during this process, so you need not set any time aside. This will not only give you valuable feedback and a chance to see others' work, but it will also provide ideas for processing your own photos.
With warm days and cool nights, August is an excellent month for experiencing morning mists; so, with fingers crossed, such opportunities are a strong possibility.
And, if there is low cloud or fog, birchwoods offer numerous possibilities for striking imagery. All I ask is that you come along armed with a camera and an open mind!

"As always Rob knew just the right locations for the light conditions. We photographed sunrises and sunsets from beautiful, peaceful locations. Rob was always on hand to advise and help with both camera techniques and composition. He somehow manages to sense when you need to be left alone and when you are struggling and need help. His afternoon sessions on processing were really helpful and I learned a lot of new Lightroom tricks. The small group size meant that help, advice and a chat was always on hand. "I drove up a day early to attend this "Peak District in Purple" workshop with Robert. That gave me an evening to relax, have a preliminary chat with him and enjoy a good fish'n'chips supper. The next two days were intense (in my opinion - NOT a complaint!), meeting at 5am, shooting sunrise, back in time for breakfast, kip for a couple of hours, meet up to look at the morning's images where Rob performed magic on them (especially mine), meal and then out again returning to the Inn in time for a last drink and then bed. Did I learn? Yes. I learned a lot about the use of filters and composition. I learned that I want to get to grips with Lightroom as Robert made the post-processing look so easy, I learned that my hand-holding for close-ups is not as good as I thought. Would I recommend his workshops? Yes, definitely. I'm off to Lapland with him next week"!

Thank you for dropping by and considering attending a workshop. I love nothing more than to pass on to others the knowledge I have gained over the last 30 years as a professional photographer and 15 as a workshop and tour leader. My group sizes are always small ensuring a fun and friendly group dynamic, lots of 'personal space' in which to photograph without too much fear of others getting in your way and as much tuition as you would like or feel that you need. I hope you can join me!
Although under the 'umbrella' of Workshops, please note there is a difference between the three types that I offer. To avoid any confusion, please see below.
Workshops
Those taking place in the UK are classed as Workshops where learning is the primary aim, and in the case of those which are multi-day residential, very often include image critique and post-processing sessions.
Tours
Overseas trips are classed as Tours where the logistics are all taken care of and where the emphasis is on getting you to great locations at the best time of the day. Since these may include hide photography and working in cold, windy conditions where one-on-one tuition isn't practical, these are less hands-on. However, prior to the hide session or upon arriving at a location, I will give advice and suggestions on composition, lens selection and exposure.
Creative Visions
Creative Visions is a new concept that I have designed to specifically nurture your artistic growth. They can take place in either the UK or abroad combining both workshop and tour principles. There will be critique and post-processing tutorials and, most importantly, you will be encouraged to go beyond the record and representational and instead produce more intimate creative interpretations.
