Faroe Islands photography tour 2023 now open for bookings
Earlier last month, I returned from an 'event#ul' week in the Faroe Islands.
Lying midway between Norway and Iceland in the North Atlantic, the Faroe Islands comprise of 18 islands connected by roads, tunnels and ferries. It's a wild, unforgiving country that even in summer (I have been there in June) it is possible to encounter extremely strong winds and relatively cold temperatures. It compensates through being exceptionally beautiful with incredibly dramatic scenery, and like Iceland, it is like nowhere else you would have seen before with high mountain passes, perpendicular cliffs (at 800+ metres they are among the world's highest) turf-roof houses and a multitude of fjords. There is, as you can imagine, more than enough to satisfy any photographer's lust for landscape.
This particular photo tour was a long time coming where for obvious reasons it had been postponed since March 2020. We were pleased that at last, it was going ahead. Or, would it? With various airlines cancelling flights due to staff, and covid-related, shortages, I had, what you might say, fun and games reaching the Faroes but once there all that faded into the background and I looked forward to settling in. That is until I saw several inches of snow at the airport...
