I created this high-key panel almost five years ago to the day. Although it has a rather studio-esque appearance they were. infact. simply shot against an overcast sky and grossly overexposed. It's a very simple technique really, which I also employed the previous autumn having 'stumbled' upon it when forgetting to reset my settings from a previous day's shoot!
As a result of it appearing on social media, the former editor of Digital Camera magazine, Marcus Hawkins, got in touch and licensed the image for a full-page on spring projects.
As mentioned in the piece, I particularly like their graphic simplicity which, I feel, are somewhat reminiscent of Japanese ink paintings. It's quite startling when you attempt it for the first time seeing the dull, grey sky transformed into brilliant white and how the green leaves and shoots take on a luminous quality. Once you've tried it, I defy you not to become hooked!
