Aside from, ecologically, playing an incredibly important role, woodlands offer solitude, peace and tranquility; a place to forget your troubles and for both your mind and body to wander. As a nature photographer, they, of course, offer innumerable opportunities but it is the experiences and encounters that I remember most fondly from 'bumping' into foxes while on their dawn patrols to tawny owls perching just metres away as I sit patiently for the emergence of badger cubs. All those you see here have been made in woodlands very close to my home in north Kent with the closest requiring just a 10 minute drive and the furthest a full 35!
