Price: £1,165.00
Deposit: £117.00
Group size: 3
Tutor / Guide: Robert Canis
Location: Snowdonia National Park, Wales
Duration: 3 nights
Cost includes: 3 nights en-suite B&B accommodation. No single-supplement necessary. Transport to locations, use of Lee Filters and post-workshop critique and Lightroom edit tutorial.
Cost excludes: Personal insurance, transport to and from Wales and meals not mentioned.
Accommodation:

Located in Betws-y-Coed in the very heart of the national park, our base for the duration of the workshop will be the superbly situated 4* Afon View guest house. Renowned for its high level of comfort and hospitality, each attendee will have a private en-suite room to themselves (no single supplement necessary) with an honesty bar,  complimentary toiletries, a hospitality tray, TV and WiFi. With regards to meals, breakfast will, of course, be at the guest house while lunch will either be picked up from a nearby store or taken at a tea room and dinner in the village.

Fitness level: Moderate. Although some of the locations will require just a short stroll from the car, due to the very nature of this region, some will necessitate a round trip of around 2 miles which may include hills, moorland, forest and near waterfalls and lakes. Should you have any concerns regarding this before booking, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Sunrise / Sunset: 07.15 / 16.30
Experience Level: Beginner upwards.
Equipment needed: Two camera bodies with one as a back up and lenses ranging from wide-angle to telephoto. A tripod will be necessary for those dawn/dusk shoots and although polarising, neutral density and neutral-density graduated filters would be useful, they are by no means essential. What is, however, is a clear understanding of exposure. A comprehensive checklist outlining clothing, camera gear and miscellaneous items will be sent out 3 months before the workshop.

Cost
Although the cost may be a little more than competitors, what you receive in return is, in my opinion, more than worth it! For a start, you receive 3 nights' accommodation instead of the usual two, a relaxed start time where no en-route overnight accommodation is necessary and most important of all, with just three attendees, bespoke one-on-one tuition. Also, and this cannot be overemphasised, at some locations, there are maybe just a few ideal shooting positions but with just two other photographers in attendance, you will have the opportunity to explore and photograph without too much concern about others being in your way. Imagine, for example, attending a workshop where there are 5 or 6 others all vying for the same spot!

Post-tour critique and edit tutorial
Following the workshop and upon receiving three RAW files from everyone, a recorded critique and Lightroom/Photoshop editing tutorial will be provided, and since there'll be no need for you to be present during this process, you need not worry about setting any time aside. This will not only give you valuable feedback and a chance to see others' work but it will, I hope, also provide ideas for processing your own photos.

Mountains, lakes, abandoned slate quarries, castles and waterfalls; amongst photographers in particular, the beguiling landscape of Snowdonia requires very little by way of an introduction. During this 4-day landscape photography workshop in Snowdonia, we will visit some of the region’s most well-known locations as well as explore lesser-known ones, too, all set against a backdrop of autumn mists and vibrant colour.

During this landscape photography workshop in Snowdonia National Park, a multitude of techniques and considerations will be discussed from filtration, composition, aspect ratios and black and white, to the thought process that lies behind the making of a meaningful photograph. Early November is a lovely time to visit when the landscape is ablaze with autumn colour and with the possibility of capturing 3 sunrises and 2 sunsets, you are sure to return home with some beautiful photographs. I hope you can join me...

The workshop begins over dinner on the 4th and concludes following a sunrise shoot and breakfast on the 7th.

Workshop info

Thank you for dropping by and considering attending a workshop. I love nothing more than to pass on to others the knowledge I have gained over the last 30 years as a professional photographer and 15 as a workshop and tour leader. My group sizes are always small ensuring a fun and friendly group dynamic, lots of 'personal space' in which to photograph without too much fear of others getting in your way and as much tuition as you would like or feel that you need. I hope you can join me!

Although under the 'umbrella' of Workshops, please note there is a difference between the three types that I offer. To avoid any confusion, please see below.

Workshops

Those taking place in the UK are classed as Workshops where learning is the primary aim, and in the case of those which are multi-day residential, very often include image critique and post-processing sessions.

Tours

Overseas trips are classed as Tours where the logistics are all taken care of and where the emphasis is on getting you to great locations at the best time of the day. Since these may include hide photography and working in cold, windy conditions where one-on-one tuition isn't practical, these are less hands-on. However, prior to the hide session or upon arriving at a location, I will give advice and suggestions on composition, lens selection and exposure.

Creative Visions

Creative Visions is a new concept that I have designed to specifically nurture your artistic growth. They can take place in either the UK or abroad combining both workshop and tour principles. There will be critique and post-processing tutorials and, most importantly, you will be encouraged to go beyond the record and representational and instead produce more intimate creative interpretations.
